Lino Repetto was born in
Genoa on 1931. He started Water Polo in the team of
“Sampierdarenese” and then played for various clubs such as
“Mameli”, “Pro Recco” and “Pegli”. His first coaching experiences has been as player-coach of
“Andrea Doria” and then coaching the teams of
“Nervi” and “Pegli”. On
1969 he became the first Italian coach who worked abroad, coaching the
National team of Greece. In Greece he stayed for two years and then he returned to Italy to coach
“Rari Nantes Sori”. Being close friend with the
legendary coach of Civitavecchia Alfio Flores,
Lino Repetto under Flores recommendation coached initially
Civitavecchia and then on
1980 Ethnicos Piraeus, Greece, with whom he
won the Greek Championship and then succeeded to
qualify in the final round of the 1981 European Cup for National Champions in Dubrovnik. Lino Repetto continued his
“coaching around” carrier into the glorious
“C.N.Marseille” and then for “few months” into
“Club Natación Montjuic”, Barcelona. On
1986 he goes back to
Greece, as National coach and leads Greece to
Madrid 1986, World Championships and Strasbourg, 1987 European Championships. Then he goes back to Italy, to coach
“A.S. Anzio” and then
back to Greece on September
1991 to coach
“Vouliagmeni Nautical Club” until
1994. On
1994 he published his book
“Pallanuoto – storia e tecnica” were he included the experiences gathered during his long carrier.
Lino Repetto has been
a tough, but fair coach, a
hard worker who devoted his entire life to Water Polo until October 2006 he passed unexpectedly away at the age of 75.
