Karoly Laky: The missionary Hungarian coach

Karoly Laky was born in Budapest 1913. He has been the coach of the Hungarian team that won the gold medal at the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games. After this great success under the permission of the Hungarian government he moved to Cuba where he worked quite few years raising significantly the level of Cuban Water Polo. He was close friend with the legendary Hungarian coach Bandy Zolyomi as both grew up in the same area of Budapest. Zolyomi admiring his coaching capabilities, proposed him in 1972, to move to Spain and coach the Spanish National team. Unfortunately this time he did not receive the permission of the Hungarian government.
