Dezso Lemhenyi: The great Hungarian teacher

Dezso Lemhenyi was born in 1917 in Budapest. He has been from 1940 to 1952 member of the Hungarian National Water Polo Team, winner of silver medal in London, 1948 and gold in Helsinki, 1952 Olympic Games. From 1952 to 1960, he was the Head coach of the Hungarian National Team that won the gold and bronze medals in Melbourne, 1956 and Rome, 1960 Olympics. He won the gold in the Torino, 1954 and Budapest, 1958 European Championships. Following his great success he moved to France becoming National coach from 1961 to 1968. After his return to Budapest from 1962 to 1972 he became director of Budapest Sport Institute, the breeding ground of Hungarian Water Polo. In 1973, he moved to Canada and in Montreal, 1976 he led Canada to its best ever performance to Olympic Games. Dezso Lemenyi passed away on December 2003 at the age of 86.
