1946: Alex Jany, the legend of Marseille

Alex Jany has been one of the best French swimmers of the 40’s and 50’s. Born in Toulouse in 1929 he has been Champion of Europe in 100 and 400 metres freestyle in Monte-Carlo 1947 and Vienna 1950 European Championships. He won the bronze medal in London 1948 and Helsinki 1952 Olympic Games with the 4X200 freestyle French relay. He has been Champion of France from 1945 until 1953 at 100, 200 and 400 metres free-style.
During the 60’s Alex Jany has been member of the Water Polo team of “Cercle des Nageurs de Marseille” and won several National titles.
At the picture dated 1946, Alex Jany is seating at the pool side with another great French swimmer of the era George Vallerey.
