1912: Women’s Water Polo camp in Peterborough

In full view of Mount Monadnock, New Hampshire, USA, Dr. Dudley A. Sargent, Professor of Physical Training at Harvard, organized the first camp for girls in 1912, including Water polo;Dr. Sargent starts a camp to make girls healthy.” (Extract of New York Times of Sunday 22nd September 1912).
Dr. Dudley Allen Sargent was born in 1849, and died in 1924. He was a pioneer in physical education at Harvard University. At a time when the concept that physical education is beneficial to health and well being was being introduced, Sargent added scientific research to fitness instruction.
