1904: First scientific research for Water Polo

Extract from New York Tribune of 1904: “Dr. Phillip B.Hawk of the University of Pennsylvania has been experimenting on the athletes of that University and has found that a three minutes game of Water Polo produces a greater number of good red corpuscles in the blood than any other form of athletic exercise...”.
Dr. Hawk published in 1907 the “Practical Physiological Chemistry” a laboratory manual and a thorough treatise on physiologic chemistry. Besides giving helpful directions for mapping a systematic course in this complicated subject, it described techniques and gave an intelligent discussion of recent advances in the entire field of biochemistry.
