1920: Water Polo in the Berlin Deutsches Stadion

Water Polo game in the Deutsches Stadion in Berlin in 1920. The 100m length pool was adjacent to the Stadium built to host the 1916 Olympics (canceled due to World War I). It was demolished in 1934 and replaced by the 1936 Berlin Olympic Stadium.

1912, Stockholm: The Swimming Stadium in Djurgårdsbrunnsviken

General view of the Swimming Stadium and the spectator’s tribune in Stockholm 1912 Olympic Games. The Stadium, venue of Swimming, Water Polo and Diving competitions, was a temporary construction, fixed on the waters of Djurgårdsbrunnsviken, which offered the greatest advantages, as regards natural facilities for the building of stands along the shores. In addition, the waters offered a protection against currents. To note that none of the open air swimming baths of Stockholm could be used for the purpose, the largest not measuring more than 33,3 metres in length, while the International Rules for Swimming Competitions prescribe a minimum length of 100 metres for swimming races above 500 metres.

1929: International tournament in Budapest

View of the International tournament held from 14 to 17 August 1929 at the famous Császár (Komjádi) pool of Budapest, venue of the first European Championships in 1926. At the tournament, promoted by the legendary personality of World Aquatics the Hungarian Dr. Leo Donath, took part the teams of Hungary, Belgium, Sweden, Germany, France and Great Britain.

1910: Match of Yale against Pennsylvania

Water Polo match held on February 1910, at the newly built swimming pool at Yale University between Yale and Pennsylvania. The pool, constructed with donation of Mr. Andrew Carnegie, was later on named as “Carnegie pool”.
